Mick's Monster Burgers
About This Spot
Perched atop Portsdown Hill, Mick’s Monster Burgers unfolds as a casual local eatery where the pace slows just enough to appreciate the sweeping views across Portsmouth. Arriving here feels like stepping into a shared moment with fellow visitors — whether on a weekend bike ride, a family outing, or a spontaneous stop on the drive. The atmosphere blends a relaxed seaside spirit with the comforting familiarity of a well-loved fast food spot.
There’s an unmistakeable warmth in the air, a feeling that this is a place to linger over generous portions of food without fuss or rush. The ordering system is simple and unpretentious; you stand by the serving hatch, maybe exchanging a smile with the friendly staff, then find your own spot among the benches or even settle inside nearby vehicles while soaking in the scenery. On a clear day, you can see miles away — the cityscape below offering a quietly stirring backdrop to your meal.
Here, burgers are both the heart and soul of the experience, a celebration of satisfying, hearty flavors. They arrive stacked and overflowing, matched with chips that invite you to share bites and stories alike. Whether you’re tackling one of the famously large “monster” burgers or savoring a more modest portion, the food carries a sense of generous comfort rather than polish. This is not fine dining, but it is deeply fulfilling.
Visitors often come not just for the food, but for the invitation to pause and partake in something uncomplicated yet soulful. The friendly chatter, the occasional seagull’s presence overhead, and the easygoing vibe make Mick’s a memorable stop — a place where local corners meet open skies, and a meal spills into moments to be quietly enjoyed.

Great view from the top of the hill! Very tasty chips and massive burgers.

I cam here with few friends on a weekend bike ride. The views from this place is very good. I enjoyed my lunch sitting here on the bench and looking at portsmouth city. On a clear day, you can see miles out. There is enough place to park your car and motorbike. It can get busy on a sunny day. Food is amazing and very good. I had bacon cheese burger and it was very good. Reasonably priced and well worth the price. I will definitely go there again.

The only disappointing thing here is that I just can't eat that much in one sitting. I have to keep coming back but it is so worth it. The view alone is worth the wait in the queue and there is always a queue. A sensible cover over the serving hatch makes so much difference and there is always a spare seat in the car. The chips are excellent, ask the waiting Seagulls on the roof.

The best fast food burger joint: incredible value, stupendous portion sizes, stunning views and free parking. The staff are efficient and friendly, the way it's all run is excellent. You order, step aside and then your number is called. I'm a fairly big eater but I would have been defeated by the monster (3/4lb) burger. Thankfully the husband and I shared a monster, a portion of chips and a hot dog. All for £15 We didn't need the hotdog lol Soft chewy bun which was perfect with nicely cooked chopped onions. They give you plenty of sauce on the side so you can load it up how you please. The chips come in one size and are enough for 2-3 normal sized humans (~£4.50) Note: hot dog is actually a sausage not a processed American style frankfurter . Like a chippy sausage (this is a chippy after all). We didn't get drinks but lots of people around us did and they looked really nice, especially the hot chocolates. We would definitely come back if we were craving a fast food fix! The view at night-time is apparently beautiful with all the lights of the city.

24/7 burger van on Portsdown Hill above Pompey. If you visit Fort Nelson, this is a must for alfresco burgers. Even the small are big! Reverse park, sit on tailgate and enjoy the views of Portsmouth below as you munch.
